The Out With The In Crowd Tour

We will be doing an excellent co-headlining tour in the Fall with Senses Fail. Supporting will be two bands that we are all big fans of and they’re two of the bands that have been restoring my faith in music lately. Can’t say how excited I am to be doing this tour. We have been in the studio for so long and haven’t had a chance to play in most places for close to a year, which is very long for us. It is going to be a great time to get back to all these cities with 3 bands that we’re really proud to share a stage with.

This tour is a co-headlining tour, which means that Bayside and Senses Fail will both be playing full headline length sets, which should keep fans of both bands totally happy. Also, we will be switching with Senses Fail on who closes each show.

We know that we have been playing a lot of the same songs for a while now and the funny thing is that when we ask people to send in requests, those are always the ones that people ask for anyway. However, for this tour we will not only be debuting a couple of new songs, but switching up some of the older ones to keep things fresh. We are hoping to give even the most seasoned Bayside veteran a show that they haven’t seen before and keep you on your toes through the set. Even if this will be your 20th time seeing us.

“I Like Your Books” - charles bukowski

“I Like Your Books”-

In the betting line the other
day
man behind me asked,
“are you Henry
Chinaski?”

“uh huh,” I answered.

“I like your books,” he went
on.

“thanks,” I answered.

“who do you like in this
race?” he asked.

“uh uh,” I answered.

“I like the 4 horse,” he
told me.

I made my bet and went back
to my seat….

the next race I am standing in
line and here is this same man
standing behind me
again.
there are at least 50 lines at
the windows but
he has to find mine
again.

“I think this race favors the
closers,” he said to the back of
my neck. “the track looks
heavy.”

“listen,” I said, not looking
around, “it’s the kiss of death to
talk about horses at the
track…”

“what kind of rule is that?”
he asked. “God doesn’t make
rules…”

I turned around and looked at him:
“maybe not, but I
do.”

after the next race
I got in line, glanced behind
me:
he was not there:

lost another reader.

I lose 2 or 3 each
week.

fine.

let ‘em go back to
Kafka.

March 8, 2010

today is a big day. it will mark a new chapter in my life. the details will need to be kept private for just a little longer, so I’m not entirely sure why I am writing this when there is not much I am allowed to say (yes there are some authorities that can shut me up). It is 7am and I slept for 2 hours last night in anticipation of what the day will bring and what it’s events will bring to the next era of my life. I started playing guitar when I was 8, started playing in bands when I was 13 and started Bayside when I was 18. A lot of people ask when we knew that we “made it” and I usually don’t have an answer because I have always been a believer that truly “making it” doesn’t afford you the time to notice that you have. I have kept my head down and stayed prepared for what was going to come next and never gave myself the opportunity to appreciate what was happening at the time. But today, in the 10th year of our band, after 8 releases, 4 continents, 1000s of shows and a million memories, I am sitting in my house, enjoying a cup of coffee and thinking about the ride I have been on. I wondered in a lyric a few years ago if any of it was worth it and today, having finally given myself the opportunity to think about it, I can assure myself that it has been. I love being in Bayside, I love making music, I love our fans and I can’t wait for the next 10 years. Today is going to be a big day

Moderation Is Not a Negation of Intensity, But Helps Avoid Monotony

Will you stop for a while, stop trying to pull yourself together
for some clear “meaning” - some momentary summary?
No on can have poetry or dances, prayer or climaxes all day;
The ordinary blankness of little dramatic consciousness is good for the health sometimes,
only Dostoevsky can be Dostoevskian at such long tumultuous stretches;
Look what that intensity did to poor great Van Gogh!;
Linger, lunge, scrounge and be stupid,
that doesn’t take much centering of one’s forces;
As wise Whitman said “lounge and invite the soul”
Get enough sleep and not only because (as Cocteau said) “poetry is the literature of sleep”;
Be a dumbell for a few minutes at least;

We don’t want Sunday church bells ringing constantly

Top 10 of 2009

I was going to do a top 10 albums of 2009 list, and I tried for about an hour, but I couldn’t think of 10 albums that I liked this year. So with that said, I wont be doing one. However, the Lilly Allen, Paramore and New Found Glory records are all wonderful. Hopefully I can do one next year

the bluebird (by Charles Bukowski)

there’s a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out but I’m too tough for him. I say “stay in there. I’m not going to let anybody see you”

there’s a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out but I poor whiskey on him and inhale cigarette smoke and the whores and the bartenders and the grocery clerks never know that he’s in there

there’s a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out but I’m too tough for him. I say “stay down, do you want to mess me up? do you want to screw up my works? you want to blow my book sales in Europe?”

there’s a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out but I’m too clever. I only let him out at night sometimes when everybody’s asleep. I say “I know that you’re there so don’t be sad”. Then I put him back but he’s singing a little in there. I haven’t quite let him die. And we sleep together like that, with our secret pact ,and it’s nice enough to make a man weep…but I don’t weep. Do you?

That’s the news..and I’m outta here

After a bunch of thought, I think I’m going to shut my blog down. I don’t like the attention that it gets and sometimes I think it is taking focus off of the music I make. One of the hardest things for me to hear is that people have liked the band but my attitude turns them away. I can’t lose sight of why i got into all this in the first place. I know it probably has seemed like a great way to get attention but I don’t see it that way. It’s a distraction. I’ve never been into the famous side of being in a band and as hard as it is to believe, I actually don’t like attention. I’m going back into my cave to make the best record of my life and you’ll hear from me when it’s done.

Sometimes I feel like writing anything in this blog is pointless because everyone will turn whatever i say into whatever they want it to mean. Short of having a full conversation with everyone in the world, it’s impossible to get the real point across to most people

  • If kids on message boards are entitled to opinions I’m entitled to mine. I totally welcome rants and nasty opinions. I have plenty myself
  • I wasn’t defending a t shirt design, I could care less if people like a t shirt design. I defend myself when people call me a ripoff
  • Not only do I think everyone should like our band, I think it’s crazy anyone does
  • I’m not professional or PC and never claimed to be. I’m an opinionated music fan with a dirty mouth like most other music fans. I just have a platform for my of color opinions whether they’re favorable or not
  • I like Brand New. I used to do merch for Brand New when Bayside was first starting

Now everyone can go turn that into me being an asshole and read between all those lines with their opinions on how I can’t have opnions
